Introducing the Chopard Alpine Eagle XL Chrono Maritime Blue Dial
Chopard’s venture into the luxury sports watch realm traces back to 1980 with the creation of the St. Moritz, designed by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele. This timepiece captured the extravagant spirit of the 1980s, complete with an intricately designed bezel featuring eight screws. Although the St. Moritz eventually ceased production, the concept was revived in 2019, under a new name – the Alpine Eagle. While the design was modernized, it retained some elements from the original St. Moritz.
Chopard introduces a new addition to the latter category. It is an exclusive watch available only at the brand’s boutique, featuring a striking and unexpected color scheme. Now, Let’s delve into the details of the Chopard Alpine Eagle XL Chrono With Maritime Blue Dial watch.
Design
Initially introduced in Lucent steel with dark blue or black dials, it now debuts in a daring and unprecedented color – Maritime Blue. True to its name, Chopard’s chronograph offers a sense of size and sportiness. While the time-and-date models maintain a classic 41mm size, the XL Chrono boasts a 44mm diameter, accompanied by a well-proportioned thickness of 13mm. Once again, Chopard employs Lucent steel A223, a material renowned for its hardness, anti-allergenic properties, and high reflectivity, making it comparable to surgical steel.
The case construction and design align with the expectations of the luxury sports watch category and the Alpine Eagle collection. It features a barrel-shaped middle case, a distinctive raised bezel adorned with screws, a flat sapphire crystal, and seamlessly integrated lugs. The chronograph pushers follow the curvature of the case, ensuring a cohesive design. The watch is also water-resistant up to 100 meters.
Dial
The dial of the new Alpine Eagle XL Chrono retains the signature sunburst motif found across the collection, reminiscent of an eagle’s iris. It makes a bold statement in a vivid “Maritime Blue” tone, complemented by eye-catching orange accents on the hands. This color combination is sure to leave a lasting impression. The remaining elements of the dial, including the markers’ design, the snail-patterned sub-dials, the tachymeter scale on the flange, and the hands, mirror those of other XL Chrono editions.
Movement
Underneath the case beats the in-house calibre 03.05-C, an integrated automatic flyback chronograph movement, certified as a COSC chronometer. The chronograph mechanism employs a column wheel and a vertical clutch. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and equipped with an openworked tungsten rotor, this movement boasts a power reserve of up to 60 hours.
The Alpine Eagle XL Chrono Maritime Blue comes fitted with a black rubber strap, meticulously designed to mimic the appearance of the metal bracelet, with a slight taper and a raised central cap. It’s worth noting that this rubber strap is now also available for the classic black and dark blue versions of the watch.
Price
The Chopard Alpine Eagle XL Chrono Maritime Blue is exclusively available at Chopard boutiques and is priced at EUR 20,800 (USD 22,058).
